Trip to Samothrace

I had a great time visiting Samothrace (Greece if you don’t know) located in the northern part of Greece. We started the trip from Patras, crossed the Rio bridge and continued through almost all Greece until we arrived at Kavala.

We took a little break there to refill some gas and then departed for Alexandroupoli’s port.

There we were ambuished by some pollice officers who they wanted to check the car for any peculiar substances!! Needless to say we didn’t have any..

The duration of the ferry boat trip was really borrrring..

However, as soon as we arrived at the island we were really pleased. Something magical about it.

Our first stop was at the rooms we stayed for about 6 nights. Then, immediately at the center of the island Chora which is the famous part of the island.

Not a very representative photo. I know right!

Plunge-Pools

Sooooo.. Unto our first plunge-pool (that Samothrace is basically known basically for) AKA Vathra in greek.

This is the first vathra that you encounter in a place called Gria’s Vathra

We continued on to find the next vathra.

So the mount called Mt. Saos has a lot of plunge pools originating from the top of the mountain. The plunge pool’s of Gria are a lot :’). So let’s get going.

So this is somewhere along the trek

Anddd this is our private plunge-pool. We spent a lot of time there contemplating, thinking, talking (mostly naked) because this is the normal-obligatory thing to do in samothrace if you want to be part of the whole thing going on there.

I am not going to show you any nudes here sorry!

Other day in Fonia’s Vathra (Murderer’s Plung-pool)

This is a very interesting trek because it involved actual trekking, not mountain climbing as the others (at least to some dedgree).

This is the first of Fonias

Random view of the Mountain

This is up ahead the mountain something like a river

The last Fonias’ plunge pool (undescribable place)

..End of fonias’ plunge-pools

Now.. One of our last days we said that we will go to Christos’ vathra (Christ’s plunge-pool) and we somewhat knew the way.

After a lot of wrong turns, screams, and exhaustion I thought that we were approaching the trailing path of climbing the mountain!!! and not the actual christ’s plunge-pool. Now, as we were heading back to take another route we found two fellow-travellers and we asked them if they knew where this path led (because basically we gave up).

They said to us that this path doesn’t actually lead to Mountain Saos but some secret plunge-pools of Gria (you remember Grias’ vathra don’t you know?).

They were two guys and we followed them with our hearts’ content. Very fun guys one of ‘em had taken a little something if you know you know. This was the pivotal part of all the trip..

The most amazing place the secret Grias’ Vathras

The last place was magical, inner-peaceful and all in all immensly calming.

Prologue

With my trip to this magical place it has come to my understanding that trips shouldn’t be about food, night-life etc. The deep meaning of trips is to fill up your senses in accordance with nature.

Also don’t go to museums in Samothrace. They are baaaad and empty..

Until next time.
